Emergency Medical Plan
Outlaws AAA Hockey Emergency Medical Plan
Purpose:
The safety and well-being of our players, coaches, and spectators are our top priorities. This Emergency Medical Plan (EMP) outlines the procedures to follow in case of a medical emergency during practices, games, or team events.
1. Emergency Contacts & Communication
- Call 911 immediately for any life-threatening injury or medical emergency.
- Emergency Contact List: Each team must have an updated list of player emergency contacts, medical conditions, and allergies.
- Team Manager & Coaches: Ensure all coaching staff and managers have access to emergency contacts and are trained in emergency response procedures.
- Rink Staff & AED Location: Identify and communicate the location of on-site medical personnel, first-aid kits, and Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) at each facility.
2. On-Ice Medical Emergencies
- Serious Injuries (Head, Neck, Spine, or Severe Bleeding):
- STOP PLAY IMMEDIATELY. Do not move the injured player.
- Call 911 and request emergency medical assistance.
- Assign a coach or team manager to keep other players away and calm.
- If trained, provide first aid or CPR if necessary until EMS arrives.
- Minor Injuries (Bruises, Sprains, Cuts, etc.):
- Move the player safely off the ice.
- Administer first aid as needed (ice packs, bandages, etc.).
- Monitor for signs of concussion or worsening condition.
- Notify parents/guardians immediately if medical attention is required.
3. Concussion Protocol
- Any player suspected of having a concussion must be removed from play immediately.
- Symptoms may include dizziness, headache, confusion, nausea, or loss of consciousness.
- The player may not return until cleared by a licensed medical professional following CDC concussion guidelines.
4. Medical Response Team & First Aid
- Each team must have at least one adult trained in basic first aid and CPR.
- First-aid kits must be readily available at all team events.
- Coaches and managers must review emergency procedures before the season starts.
5. Evacuation & Severe Weather Plan
- In case of fire, severe weather, or facility evacuation, follow the rink’s emergency procedures.
- Coaches will assist players in exiting safely and meeting at a designated location outside.
6. Post-Incident Reporting
- Any significant injury must be documented in an Incident Report Form and submitted to the Outlaws Board (outlawsaaahockey@gmail.com) within 24 hours.
- A follow-up check with the injured player and family should be conducted to ensure proper care.
Preparedness Saves Lives!
All players, coaches, and parents should familiarize themselves with this plan to ensure a quick and effective response in an emergency.
